TToday Soundcloud is releasing a brand new iOS app, which is a long-awaited update mainly targeted at listeners – and which will also benefit creators.

  • The iconic waveform player. All key interactions are said to be thought of as gesture-first, so it’s more than just a visual refresh.
  • New user profiles. An attractive way for sound creators to reach their mobile audience. They look good!
  • Anonymous access. Just as YouTube, Soundcloud doesn’t require an account to listen to music.
  • Explore genres. The already existing on the web feature, showing new and old users trending Soundcloud tracks.
  • Simplification. The new app distills features to the very core of what Soundcloud listeners mainly use.

Some of the features won’t be available at launch as the company “wanted to offer a simplified user experience immediately,” according to the press release.

Features that will be brought back in future iOS updates include playlist creation, search filters and suggestions, following/followers, timed comments, and account management (e.g. editing user name, changing profile pic, etc.)
